Sorry for the late reply, but:
When you change the name of a map using g.rename, this does not change
the name in the d.rast call in the GUI. For the GUI you are still
trying to display the old map name. So, after you changed the map name
with g.rename, you also have to change the map name in the d.rast call
(i.e. in the 'Properties' of the layer) in the GUI...
