Hi all,
Apologies for the mass mailing.
I am helping organize a special issue of the journal Annals of GIS on the topic of "Open Geographic Modeling" and invite you to submit a paper for publication in this special issue. The deadline is September 30, 2020. This is a good opportunity to send in existing work on Open Geospatial Modeling that may have been rejected elsewhere and could easily be improved and re-submitted. This is also a chance to publish other interesting graduate student research projects, open source web/desktop modelling applications and tools, means and methods for open collaborative modelling, etc.
Please contact me, or Barry Croke, or Songshan Yue if you have any questions or want to check your paper/idea for scope-fit.
Thanks,
Dan

Special Issue "Open Geographic Modeling" - Annals of GIS Call for Papers
The earth’s environmental system is a complex and synthetic system that includes massive and dynamic chemical, biological, and physical processes as well as complicated human activities. Due to this complexity, it is essential to integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines for solving complex geo-problems (refer to problems that occur in the geographic world, for example, global warming, air pollution, site selection, urban expansion planning, traffic congestion and so forth). And along with the process of exploring suitable solutions for a geo-problem, integrated environmental modeling, collaborative modeling, and participatory modeling are all important and effective approaches. In addition, studies on Future Earth (FE), Virtual Geographic Environment (VGE), E-Science and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based modeling also promoted environmental modeling towards more comprehensive geographic modeling which generally involves environmental and social disciplines as well as information technology (GIS, Cloud computing, web services, etc.). In this context, we propose a Special Issue that targets on modeling our world based on an open idea, which means the modeling methods could be interdisciplinary or the modeling related resources could be open source.
Our interest is in papers that cover a wide spectrum of topics, including, but not limited to, the following:
Environmental modeling
Integrated environmental modeling
Collaborative modeling
Participatory modeling
Human-activity modeling
Relationship between information and real world
Geographic information analysis
Spatiotemporal analysis and modeling
Big data mining
Scenario simulation and modeling
Social media modeling
Artificial intelligence, GIS, and remote sensing
Hydrology, climate change, air quality, terrestrial carbon cycle, etc.
