I'm against using JPG for this, it is the wrong format for the task.

This is a bug in convert.
I used convert from 
Debian GNU/Linux imagemagick Version: 4:5.4.4.5-1woody1
(Version: @(#)ImageMagick 5.4.4 04/05/02 Q:16)

And could create a png understandable for konqueror (from KDE 3.1.2)
without problems.

How did you create the roadmap?
