Are you sure about that?

The directions there don't ask you to use the checkout command at all - 
they suggest you download the latest CVS snapshot, and then cd into 
that directory and use cvs up -dP to update that snapshot from the 
repository.  I've just checked, and the snapshot that it downloads is 
indeed version 6, so when you then cd into the directory and ask for an 
update, it should get it from the version 6 repository.

I wonder - did you already have an existing source tree on your system, 
and you did a cd into THAT directory and issue the cvs up command?  
Because if you did, it will update to whatever tree/branch (!) was used 
to originally check it out.

If you followed the full set of steps, I think it should work as 
written.  If you were hoping to update from 5.5 to 6, then you need to 
check out the new tree, but that's not what the instructions are 
written for.

I've just tested the instructions step by step, and end up with 6.0.2cvs
