oh, this is of course not the scope (and rather a system setting somewhere
to find out).
I checked the directory to find out the following files looks like as

I believe that the files get generated in the httrack mirroring process.
The original pages do not have any
and, yes, they get autogenerated by apache on the fly on the master server.

Paweł, would it be possible to add to your mirror script to delete the
following index.html files:
... *if* they exist as being generated in your httrack run?
Then the problem should disappear.
