[GRASS-windows] Error: Redirection is not supported

Folks,

I gave the 6.3.0RC4 wingrass binaries a spin. But when I run the
grass63 shell script I get the following:

"""
$ ./grass63 -text

WELCOME TO GRASS Version 6.3.0RC4 2008

    1) Have at your side all available GRASS tutorials

    2) When working on your location, the following materials
       are extremely useful:
       - A topo map of your area
       - Current catalog of available computer maps

    3) Check the GRASS webpages for feedback mailinglists and more:
       http://www.grass-gis.org
       http://grass.osgeo.org

Hit RETURN to continue

Starting GRASS ...

Redirection is not supported.
"""

I did a bunch of debugging and came to the conclusion that the
"Redirection is not supported" message was coming from the set_data
program, or from very near the evaluation of this line in Init.sh:

        text)
             "$ETC/set_data"

Is this a known problem?

...

Hmm, I tried running with wish instead of in text mode, and I get a
somewhat different result. I get the main grass window and a popup
that says <C:/warmerda/grassbld/bld> is not a directory or does not
exist.

My initial tests were with the distributed binaries, but the last
wish related error was actually with a copy I built myself. My
own built version also produces the text mode "redirection is not
supported" message.

I'm actually trying to work towards being able to package wingrass
for OSGeo4W:

   http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/OSGeo_Win32_Installer

It aims to be a cross project installer for a variety of OSGeo
projects and other FOSS4G software. Amoung other things, I try
to provide developer support files in this distribution. So
for instance, the GDAL comes with include files and a stub library.

I'm still reviewing how to make such VC++ build libraries useful
to MSYS/MinGW build packages like GRASS. So far, I'm guessing
it would be helpful if I named the stub library in a form that
is likely to get picked up by configure, and I should provide a
unix style gdal-config. Any other thoughts?

Anyone in the wingrass effort interested in getting involved in
OSGeo4W on behalf of GRASS? If so, please join the mailing list.

PS. I'm impressed with wingrass, and I'm frankly shocked that
I managed to get GRASS built as the first thing I ever built with
MSYS/MinGW! A credit to the instructions in the wiki.

Best regards,
