Dear All,

We are planning Geo For All meeting at FOSS4G 2014 in Como, Italy. It will be great opportunity esp. for all our labs in Europe to meet and discuss ideas for joint collaborations esp. various H2020 calls etc. Also we need to make use of available opportunities like Google Summer of Code to build good projects and collaborations between our labs.

For example last year Dr Luciene Delazari (Federal University of Parana, Brazil), Piotr Pociask (GIS Support Sp, Warsaw) and Dr Mark Ware (University of South Wales) joined together for supervising the Schematization Plugin for QGIS project that student Nishith Maheshwari (IIIT Hyderabad, India) carried out. Not only it will help produce a joint research paper but will now enable more collaborative research ideas for the map generalization research community for extending this as an open schematization platform which other students in future can use to build upon. It is an excellent example of how we can build ideas for collaborative research for ICA-OSGeo-ISPRS labs for the future. This will also help us build ideas for next year’s GSoC by having members of ICA-OSGeo-ISPRS labs network collaborate on other interesting ideas.

We are also planning to arrange the inaugural ICA-OSGeo-ISPRS Award for Open Geospatial Science will be for the best student winning team at the NASA World Wind Europa Challenge competition.

So please let me know your thoughts/ideas before 27th Oct and we can include this.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Subject: [Conference-europe] FOSS4G Europe 2015 - call for abstracts

Dear all,
the FOSS4G Europe 2015 website is quite ready, and we need to have the call for abstracts/workshops published soon.
I please ask all the committees involved (1-workshops, 2-general track, 3-academic track, 4-water track, 5-open data track, 6-library track, 7-indoor/outdoor positioning and mapping) to start working, in order to:
1) set up the track committee (especially for those committees that are still composed of very few people) trying to make it as "European" as possiblle, i.e. with many countries represented;
2) prepare the text of the call: as general guidelines, this can be a 10-lines description plus (where relevant) a list of possible themes;
3) decide the form of contributions you are expecting. As we'll produce proceedings for the conference, we suggest all the committees to ask at least for an abstract; then, please decide whether you plan also to ask for a paper. This will be specified in the call;
4) (if you also plan to have papers) contact journal editors for publishing a special issue related to your topic.
Each committee will be then responsible for selecting the abstracts/papers and of course for managing its session. And the leader of each committee is responsible for the committee!
For your personal discussions, please remember to use the private mailing list enabling the filter on your topic. Instructions on how to do it were in Jorge's e-mail, but if you have doubts just ask me.
Let's fix as deadline for 1) and 2) (especially for writing the text of the call to be put on the website) Tuesday, October 28. This means you have one week!
