Hi Peter,
Great to hear from you and Happy New Year.
It is great to see the growing presence of OSGeo at EGU and thank you for your efforts. Thanks for informing us on this EGU short courses opportunity. I am ccing our Geo for All members so that we can find who is planning to attend this year's EGU and if so interested to run this short course. If some one is available we can plan this as an ICA-OSGeo-ISPRS activity also.
All- Please see the details below and inform us if you are planning to attend EGU 2015 asap, so that we can plan ideas for this. Thanks.
Best wishes,
Suchith

Dear Suchith,
happy new year to you ! I hope you are well.
With the deadlines for this years EGU General Assembly in Vienna approaching, I want to draw you attention to the pending call for Short Courses during the conference (details here: http://www.egu2015.eu/short_courses.html).
Just like last year, there will be several sessions of FOSS GIS:
http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2015/session/17174
http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2015/session/17607
and a OSGeo Townhall is (hopefully) also going to be hosted (...working on it...).
During last years conference we learned (again) that neither Splinter Sessions nor Townhall sessions are the right venue to give a comprehensive overview over the OSGeo software portfolio and what can be done with it.
So a dedicated short course might be the way to go.
The deadline to apply for short courses is January 23.
Do you think that there might be interested parties within the geoforall-community which would be able to shoulder such an effort ?
I'll be busy with the ESSI session and the Townhall and won't be able to pitch in much, yet I feel a OSGeo training course would be really valuable.
Best,
Peter
PS: BTW, the summary about the activities at last years EGU GA can be found here: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/EGU_Townhall_2014 - there are also some ideas about OSGeo-training events.
