Dear colleagues,

I have now volunteered to do the "Lab of the month" for our news letter and discussed initial ideas with Nikos.

I suggest that we start our first "lab of the month" thanking our amazing colleagues at Open Source Geospatial Lab at Kathmandu University in Nepal . The selfless and truly amazing work they did (in spite of all odds and difficulties) to help in the relief and recovery efforts of the Nepal earthquake (and still doing) deserves a big thank you . I will contact Shashish for this .

Also it really showed the true essense of "Geo for All" and the spirit of our colleagues and students globally (in very fast response) who all joined efforts to help remotely by contributing to organising mapping events etc for this http://opensourcegeospatial.icaci.org/2015/04/mapping-response-contributions-for-nepal/

Also our thanks to Pavel Kikin and Alexey Kolesnikov from Siberian State University of Geosystems and Technologies who have also kindly volunteered to be co-editors from Asia. Also it will be good to have more volunteers to help with events, conferences news. If you are attending any FOSS$G conferences etc, please let Nikos know and it will be good to have a short report for our newsletter.

Once the newsletter is ready, we also can make the pdf version available in the website.

Suchith

Nikos,

Many thanks to you for this great idea of the Newsletter and coming forward to lead as Chief Editor . Also thanks to all volunteers co-editors who came forward to help.

May i also suggest that you ask for more volunteers to help you with the various subtasks. For example, i wll be happy to volunteer for working to get the "Lab of the month" section. Anyone interested in helping with other key sections can directly email you.

The Newsletter aims to have the following : ( so more volunteers can help you each sub section )

* Summary of the month highlighting various activities in the network (Chief Editor)

* Will have a section on "Lab of the month" i.e contact one of the labs in our network to work with them to put together an article on thier work and developments, key people etc.

* Sections on various events, conferences, webinars, courses, training programs etc at the various labs

* Section on any key research publications published by any of our labs

* Section on funding opportunities, bids etc that our members are working on

* Section on new free and open software, books, articles, etc.

* Section on scholarships for students and exchange programs for students and staff in our network.

* Any other ideas/proposals

Best wishes,

Suchith

Subject: Geo4All Newsletter

Dear all,

As you may all know, from the emails Suchith has sent, we have started building our Geo4all monthly newsletter. Although we still need 1-2 co editors from Africa, Oceania and S. America, I would like, as Chief Editor, to ask for your support on the Newsletter's content. The first issue, we hope to be ready for publication in August, would be interesting to have small articles of yours, like all these you send every now and then on the email.

So far, the staffing of the Newsletter is as follows:

Emma Strong (eestrong118 at gmail.com) co editor for N. and Central America
Elżbieta Wołoszyńska-Wiśniewska (Ela) ela at gridw.pl co editor for Europe
Antoni Perez Navarro (aperezn at uoc.edu) co editor for S. America
Rizwan Bulbul (bulbul at grel.ist.edu.pk) co editor for Asia

If you want to share some news, activities, initiatives, etc, with the rest of the members, please send your article or announcement to the co editor of your region.
For those who can't find a co editor for their region please send everything to me (Nikos Lambrinos labrinos at eled.auth.gr)

Best regards
Nikos
