I would like to invite all of you to join us next month in NYC for the Fall Symposium of the American Geographical Society.  This year’s theme is Geography 2050:  Exploring Our Future in an Urbanized World (www.geography2050.org<http://www.geography2050.org>).  This is the second installment in a multi-year strategic dialog focused on the vital trends that will reshape the geography of our planet by 2050.  We would love to have the Geo4All voice at the table as part of this dialog!

As our planet and its various societies face increasingly volatile change, we must address the future geography of urban vulnerability to natural, technological, and health hazards, and discuss the various approaches to building resilience.

Dr. Ebru Gencer
Executive Director and Board President,

Center for Urban Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience (CUDRR+R)

Dr. Ebru Gencer is the Co-Chair of the Urban Planning Advisory Group to the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Disaster Risk Reduction, and an Associate Researcher with the Euro-Mediterranean Climate Change Center (CMCC).She is also a Coordinating Lead Author for Urban Climate Change Research Network’s (UCCRN) Second Assessment Report on Climate Change and Cities, a US National Delegate of ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners), and an Urban Expert for the World Humanitarian Summit.Within the last decade, Dr. Gencer has been involved in projects in South-Eastern Europe, Turkey, the Americas and the Caribbean with different capacities. She was the International Consultant for Urban Planning and Disaster Resilience for the UNISDR, analyzing disaster risk reduction practices of the local governments in the Western Balkans and Turkey. As an associate researcher at CMCC, she worked on developing a toolbox for resiliency profile of cities as part of the EU (FP7) funded CASCADE (Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for Water Resources and Human Livelihoods in the Coastal Zones of Small Island Developing States) project. As a think-tank member of the EU CATALYST and a consultant with the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) in Venice, she developed research on the vulnerability characteristics of urban settlements in the Central America and the Caribbean Region.

Dr. Robert S. Chen
Director, Center for International Earth Science Information Network

Dr. Chen is director of the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), a part of the Earth Institute at Columbia University in New York. He also manages the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), a unique source of interdisciplinary, open access geospatial data and information focused on human-environment interactions. He recently served on the United Nations Independent Expert Advisory Group on the Data Revolution for Sustainable Development, and helped to develop the innovative immersive exhibit, Connected Worlds, at the New York Hall of Science.

Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig,
Senior Research Scientist,
NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies

Cynthia Rosenzweig is a Senior Research Scientist at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, where she heads the Climate Impacts Group. She is Co-Chair of the New York City Panel on Climate Change, a body of experts convened by the mayor to advise the city on adaptation for its critical infrastructure. She co-led the Metropolitan East Coast Regional Assessment of the U.S. National Assessment of the Potential Consequences of Climate Variability and Change, sponsored by the U.S. Global Change Research Program. She was a Coordinating Lead Author of the IPCC Working Group II Fourth Assessment Report. She is Co-Director of the Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN) and Co-Editor of the First UCCRN Assessment Report on Climate Change and Cities (ARC3), the first-ever global, interdisciplinary, cross-regional, science-based assessment to address climate risks, adaptation, mitigation, and policy mechanisms relevant to cities. She is the founder of AgMIP, a major international collaborative effort to assess the state of global agricultural modeling, understand climate impacts on the agricultural sector, and enhance adaptation capacity, as it pertains to food security, in developing and developed countries. She was named as one of "Nature's 10: Ten People Who Mattered in 2012" by the science journal Nature. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, she joins impact models with climate models to project future outcomes of both land-based and urban systems under altered climate conditions.

Chief Enterprise Risk Officer,

Jacob D. Rosengarten is the Chief Enterprise Risk Officer of the XL Capital Group of companies. In his role at XL, Mr. Rosengarten is responsible for ensuring the efficient identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of key risks across the XL Capital Group. During his 30-year career, Mr. Rosengarten has held several leadership roles in risk management, including Managing Director of Risk Management and Analytics for Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) for the past 10 years.
