+1 to sooner rather than later. I am glad to see the active discussion, and I hope that it leads to additional volunteers to help with the nuts and bolts of the migration.
DNS: My employer uses DNSPark. We initially hosted DNS with our ISP and were scrambling pretty hard when the ISP was sold and we were unsure if they would continue operations. Moving DNS to an external provider gives some pretty good peace of mind... as long as it's not in the same basket as your domain registrar.
Domain name: I believe that Gary picked up osgeo.net during the initial meeting. This would be an ideal domain to move some of our infrastructure to. I would even go so far as to propose that this be considered as the permanent home for everything other than the web site rather than just the transitionary home.
LDAP: Is it a security risk to create an LDAP record for every user that registers against the CMS? Does this give an additional vector into all of our servers, or is the LDAP-to-server link created manually?
SSL: Since the CMS is going to be LDAP, I really think that at least the login screen should be SSL, with a clean handoff to the non-SSL site with a user token.
Bug tracking: I'm not sure whether it will even be possible to dump the issues from CN. We may need to go through the active projects and manually scrape them. We'll have to talk to CN about this.
Other points: I agree 100% with holding off on any new functionality other than CMS and LDAP, and also think that simple rsync (as long as it included the database dumps) would be reasonable as a first effort at offsite backups.
