FDO is also apparently used in
1Spatial's "Radius Studio":

27542
SL-King's FDO2FDO application:
http://www.sl-king.com/fdo2fdo/fdo2fdo.html
And is also likely being used in other applications that are unknown.
For instance, Haris is currently working on an FDO-based data transfer
application for me in support of a mobile mapping application.
I think that while MapGuide Open Source, Autodesk, and Safe are listed
as users, these should actually be in the commercial products section,
while the number of users should be based loosely on the number of
downloaders and/or a reference to the mailing lists (there are currently
56 members on the -users list, about half of which are not ADSK
employees).

4. Please describe your Project.
Feature Data Objects (FDO) is an API for manipulating, defining,
and
analyzing geospatial information regardless of where it is stored.
FDO uses a provider-based model for supporting a variety of
geospatial data sources, where each provider typically supports a
particular data format or data store. For more information see
http://fdo.osgeo.org.
5. Why is hosting at OSGeo good for your project?
As with MapGuide we believe OSGeo membership will provide a much
more impartial open source home for FDO than hosting it directly
from Autodesk. It is our sincere hope that it will become a key
component in the geospatial open source software stack.
6. Type of application does this project represent(client, server,
standalone, library, etc.):
Library
7. Please describe any relationships to other open source projects.
FDO is heavily used by MapGuide Open Source.
8. Please describe any relationships with commercial companies or
products.
Originally developed by Autodesk, FDO is used in commercial products
from Autodesk and Safe Software.
9. Which open source license(s) will the source code be released under?
LGPL
10. Is there already a beta or official release?
Yes
11. What is the origin of your project (commercial, experimental, thesis
or other higher education, government, or some other source)?
Commercial with an eye toward open source.
12. Does the project support open standards? Which ones and to what
extent?
(OGC, w3c, ect.) Has the software been certified to any standard (CITE
for example)? If not, is it the intention of the project owners to seek
certification at some point?
OGC, WKT, WMS, WFS
13. Is the code free of patents, trademarks, and do you control the
copyright?
Yes
14. How many people actively contribute (code, documentation, other?) to
the project at this time?
~20
15. How many people have commit access to the source code respository?
29
16. Approximately how many users are currently using this project?
3) MGOS, Autodesk, Safe
17. What type of users does your project attract (government,
commercial, hobby, academic research, etc. )?
Geospatial application developers
18. If you do not intend to host any portion of this project using the
OSGeo infrastructure, why should you be considered a member project of
the OSGeo Foundation?
N/A
19. Does the project include an automated build and test?
Built in unit tests. Automated build TBD.
20. What language(s) are used in this project? (C/Java/perl/etc)
C++
21. What is the dominant written language (i.e. English, French,
Spanish, German, etc) of the core developers?
English
22. What is the (estimated) size of a full release of this project? How
many users do you expect to download the project when it is released?
~150 MB. Currently ~500 downloads / year.
