[Incubator] Request to register GIFramework Maps as an OSGeo community project

Hi,

Just to provide an update. I’ve attempted to overwrite the image again with the correct logo, but it generated a URL with -1 at the end. I notice the actual images says it was uploaded by Nick so perhaps it is not actually used as it might have been uploaded in error or for a specific events page?

We think most of the logo images used on the website appear to be referencing the SVG version.

If someone can delete the broken image, then I can reupload a PNG version with the same name and that might sort it?

Thanks,
Paul

In fixing some typos I noticed that ...

Is now your logo! Not sure how that happened or quite how to fix...

Hi Jody,

Thank you for your replies 😊 I’m in and out this week with school holiday related jobs so it might take a while before I can come back fully but I wanted to reply on a couple of points if that is ok.

  1. I’m happy with the “friend” status for Dorset Council. I just wanted the ability to log them as a core contributor for GIFramework Maps but they are definitely not a support provider.
  2. In terms of photos, we don’t have a good one ☹ I was planning to add one at a later date but was also thinking of waiting till we have grown the community a bit more as it would be great to have more than just Dorset Council employees in the image.
  3. I’m sure we can put up some screenshots of the application itself at some point 😊

Thank you for the initial reviews and all the work you have been putting into this. I’ll try to review it all again myself as soon as possible.

Paul

Thanks Paul,

I added "serviced provider author" permission to your login, and send an email to marketing committee who manages service providers. You may also wish to consider the "friend and partner" page which is where other government and non-government groups are listed (like OSM or a technology park).

Reviewing (and publishing) you draft:

  1. Changed from "Community project" to "none" (as we need the website page for your application to osgeo)
  2. Changed "Free and open source software" to "open source software" as you use the MIT License.
  3. I looked for a banner photo, but could not find a free photo of our Dorset City Council building (if we cannot get a team photo ...)
  4. Replaced a few cases "if" with "GIFramework-Maps" - generally at the start of a paragraph. For folks that do not work with this tool daily it is good to repeat the name.
  5. Added https://github.com/Dorset-Council-UK/GIFramework-Maps/discussions as a mailing list (best fit)

The result is published https://www.osgeo.org/projects/giframework-maps/

Aside: As someone who does not know the thing I would love to see a screen snap (folks evaluate initially on appearance so showing a an example of what can be done :)

Hi Jody,

I tried to add Dorset Council as a service provider so they can be listed as core-contributors for the GIFramework Maps project but I didn’t have the correct permissions, so it is a post without the right template I think. You should be able to find it but it will be in draft mode.

I’ve updated the GIFramework Maps page and submitted it for review now, is that done correctly?

Thanks,
Paul

Thanks Paul, this is the most organized application I have seen in a while - thank you very much!

I have added "project author" permission to your user id.

I do not have any great guidance on making the project page:

  1. The "Add a Service Provider<https://www.osgeo.org/community/getting-started-osgeo/add-service-provider/>" show how these wordpress forms are used, and has the 720x412 template needed to frame your logo (to work with the website "tile" presentation).
  2. The reference page is "GeoNode" that shows a friendly team photo (open source is made of people is the message) and can be a guide for how to frame<https://github.com/OSGeo/osgeo/tree/master/marketing/photos> screen shots and the like.

Let us know when you page is ready for review and we can provide feedback and publish.
