Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Principal GIS Architect to work closely with other senior members of the Product Development Team in order to design, implement, and support Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Location Based Services (LBS) applications in regards to our nationwide traffic flow and incident offerings. This position will also manage a small team of GIS Architects and Analysts.
Primary Responsibilities:
In this position, the Principal GIS Architect will assist in providing architectural leadership and implementation guidance for the GIS infrastructure behind the nationwide traffic services. The Principal Architect will be expected to work closely with our other GIS Architects and senior members of the product development team to design and build the following technology components:
1. * A state of the art Location Based Services engine, including development of truly ground breaking and revolutionary new technology around the area of dynamic routing.
2. * The geographical middleware and database components of a system that will provide traffic flow and predictive data based on traffic sensor networks.
3. * A proprietary nationwide 'dust network' incorporating data from GPS sensors located in moving vehicles.
4. * An application architecture that will render maps based on the traffic system web service.
Much of this development will be based on technology and data that is acquired from vendors of mapping data and GIS middleware.
Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have at least 5-years experience as a developer or architect of LBS systems and GIS application software and a current knowledge industry-standard application development tools, standard software development methodology, relational databases and technology providers. Detailed understanding of map rendering, data formats, geocoding, route calculations, cartography and coordinate mapping is essential. In addition, the qualified candidate must be able to interact effectively with clients and team members, manage multiple concurrent assignments across his/her team and perform well in a dynamic team environment.
Desired Qualifications:
* Experience in design and development of location based services applications and/or system software. Ideal applicant will have deep experience in development of routing and/or map rendering algorithms.
* Application and system development experience with GIS development tools including ESRI software products including ArcSDE, ArcGIS, ArcObjects, ArcInfo and AML. Experience with ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Engine a plus.
* Experience in managing and mentoring at least two or three GIS professionals across a variety of projects.
* At least 3 years preferred experience with object oriented programming using Visual Studio (both 6.x and .NET), VB, C#, and SQL.
* Familiarity working with transportation databases from TeleAtlas, GDT, NavTeq, DMTI, and others.
* Experience with XML and RDBMS, preferably with SQL Server.
* Development experience with web-based applications or web services a plus.
Educational requirements:
The candidate should have earned at least a Bachelors degree in either Computer Science or Geography (GIS).
