Software Engineer


Applied Science Associates (ASA, www.asascience.com<http://www.asascience.com>), a global science and technology solutions company headquartered in South Kingstown, RI, is currently seeking an entry or mid-level Software Engineer.

ASA works with many different technologies to solve complex problems about the environment for our clients around the world.  We are technology agnostic, we believe in using the best tools for the job.  We build solutions using Python, .NET, Java, Fortran, Ruby, Matlab, R, ActionScript, Javascript, and PHP.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated problem solver who works well both independently and in small teams.  They will be comfortable with all aspects of product development, from design to deployment, and have a solid understanding of how software engineering differs from computer programming.

Required:

-          Solid foundation of computer science principals

-          GIS experience

-          RDBMS experience

Ideally:

-          BA or BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

-          1-5 years of software development in a GIS/Ocean science - related field

-          Large scale data management

-          Linux administration

-          Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, etc.)

-          Scientific data, GIS concepts and GIS/Geospatial applications

-          In depth knowledge of Python, Java, or C#.

-          You only have to Google a few of these items:  PostGIS, Git, MVC, MapServer , TileCache, NetCDF
