Senior Spatial Biodiversity Analyst
Yale Program in Spatial Biodiversity Science and Conservation
A three-year position in spatial analysis and research is available in our newly formed program, starting 1 September 2012 or later. The position is to provide spatial data analysis support for ongoing research projects in biodiversity science and conservation undertaken by Yale faculty and students. Start date is flexible and extension beyond three years is possible.
Essential Duties

Work with a team of professors, postdocs and students to support geospatial biodiversity analyses including statistical analysis, development of automated procedures and code (including some web applications), and database management. Provide training in spatial biodiversity analysis.
Education and Experience
1.      PhD degree in a relevant area (or equivalent education and experience) and at least five years of experience in the management and analysis of spatial biological data
2.      Background in spatial analysis, development of spatial analysis workflows, data management and relational databases, spatial statistics, analysis of remotely sensed data.
3.      Strong background in: spatial R, PostGIS, ArcGIS, GRASS, Python, postgreSQL, or similar.
4.      Documented experience in managing a team and training others
Skills and Abilities
1.      Excellent spatial analysis and database management skills.
2.      A strong interest in learning and developing new approaches to support statistical analysis, databasing, and web-delivery of spatial, environmental and biodiversity data and tools.
3.      Excellent communication skills
4.      Very strong planning and organizational skills, ability to simultaneously tackle multiple projects and work with different research groups
5.      Well developed analytical and problem solving skills.
