We are looking for a Web Designer/Front End Web Developer with an 
interest in interactive maps and complex data visualization. Your key 
responsibility will be to support and lead development of websites that 
feature geospatial and map elements.

We want you to have the ability to create visual clarity, a logical and 
compelling user flow on websites, and in the process, distill and 
integrate complex data sets. You’ll work alongside our existing staff 
members who provide robust development of the website content, 
structure, and functionality. You’ll work with our project leads and our 
back end programming staff to plan and implement polished websites, and 
your skills will help us anticipate the needs of end users early in the 
design process.

REQUIREMENTS
-Fluent in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/jQuery
-Knowledge of modern web and mobile technologies, CSS3, HTML5, and eager 
to keep abreast of emerging strategies and techniques for communicating 
information
-Strong visual design skills, with a passion for bringing innovative 
design to public interest causes
-Demonstrated experience in user interface design, preferably including 
some experience conducting usability assessments
-Experience with design techniques (e.g., Bootstrap and other UI tools) 
and knowledge of how to resolve browser differences
-Creative problem solving in a team environment
-Effective communication skills, particularly in explaining to clients 
options and strategies for undertaking projects
-Enthusiasm for learning about geospatial and related technology and 
what it can do to help address important public issues
-Experience working on multiple projects with differing deadlines, 
ideally in a client services setting
-Highly organized and able to work efficiently, both independently and 
as a part of a team

In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience with some of the 
following:
-Data visualization for large data sets
-Experience with web mapping APIs such as Leaflet, OpenLayers, Modest 
Maps, ArcGIS JavaScript, Google Maps, Bing Maps
-Mobile application development, or other emerging web technologies
-Knowledge of contracting processes, ability to define and track 
budgets, and ability to ensure timely project completion
-Experience with marketing to diverse public interest groups to develop 
new projects
-Background in particular fields of practice (social justice, 
land/air/water health, climate, conservation, demography, etc.)
-Understanding of how to work with nonprofits and government agencies
