Columbus Technologies is aggressively seeking a Systems Architect to support NASA's Earth Observing System Data and Information System group at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.  This is a full time, fully benefited on going assignment.  Unfortunately no telecommuting will be offered, and US permanent residency is a minimum requirement this position.

Columbus Technologies and Services, Inc. is supporting NASA in its efforts to make Google Earth-like, open source imagery and other data services available for NASA Earth science data. We are looking for a well-qualified, senior Systems Architect who will have a rare opportunity to contribute to the NASA's Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS, https://earthdata.nasa.gov/esdis) Project Management Office at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) facility in Greenbelt, MD. This position will support Science Data Applications Development and Operations for ESDIS including projects like Global Imagery Browse Service (GIBS - https://earthdata.nasa.gov/about-eosdis/system-description/global-imagery-browse-services-gibs), Data as a Service (DaaS), cloud computing, and web applications and content development efforts.

This position's role will be to provide system engineering, development and architecture, and Project Management support for prototyping DaaS capabilities for NASA Earth Science data, including exploration, development, configuration, testing, prototype deployments and evaluation of technologies to expose Earth Science data to wider audiences in a machine-readable manner; work closely with the customers, team members, and stakeholders to gather, understand, perform, and utilize detailed analysis of input/requirements and technical challenges for use in designing solutions to complex issues; devise test and scenario/use cases; working with the NASA Earth science data community to report on results, anticipate needs, recommend, and implement reliable solutions; guide in identifying and implementing systems that are highly available with limited human intervention; provide technical leadership and Project Management support for projects; and provide third tier expertise to meet operational and troubleshooting needs.

Essential skills:
* Demonstrated experience in architect, design, and development of web and data services for large scale, multi-threaded applications.
* Experience building large scale distributed data processing systems/applications or large-scale internet systems (cloud computing).
* Hands-on technical role at a senior level, contributing to all phases of the software development life cycle (SLDC), i.e., analysis, architecture, design, implementation, and testing
* Project Management experience including Agile
* Must have demonstrated experience administering and securing a large Linux/VMware environment.
* Experience with web and data services
* Knowledge of network security
* Strong foundational knowledge and experience with distributed systems and computing systems in general.
* Must have "hands-on" engineering experience, demonstrated expertise, and applicable skills.
* Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
* Experience with architecture/design documentation and design/code reviews.
* Ability to lead initiatives and people toward common goals.
* Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and analytical skills

Desired skills:
* Experience with EOSDIS science data/communities.
* Experience with data services such as OPeNDAP, OGC web services, etc.
* Demonstrated experience working in software development environments utilizing diverse capabilities including automated testing, Java, JavaScript, C, shell scripts, Groovy/Grails, Ruby, Python, Mapserver, ElasticSearch/SOLR, jUnit, JQuery, SQL, Apache, OpenLayers, HTML, Drupal, ZooKeeper, GDAL, OGC, HDF and NetCDF programming techniques, libraries and standards.
* PMP Certifications is desired

Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree Computer Science, Information Systems, or related degree field. Higher degrees preferred. Twenty five years of applicable experience.
