Senergy provides consultancy services in geohazards, geophysics,
geotechnics, engineering and GIS, and specialises in project management
of offshore surveys, site investigation, rig positioning, positioning
and inspection.  S&G services clients globally who operate across
multiple energy sectors such as oil and gas and renewables.

Senergy is looking to immediately appoint a full-time GIS technician
within the existing GIS team of 5 permanent staff.  The role will be
based at Senergy's office in Bath and will support Senergy's activities
globally.

Primary Duties

*         Provide geospatial data management support to projects and
Senergy's geospatial repository (PostgreSQL/PostGIS relational
database).

*         Provide advanced map production support to a diverse range of
business streams, including survey acquisition, subsurface, well
engineering and marine operations and contingency-planning.

*         Provide geospatial data processing and analysis support using
a range of bespoke workflows for both large vector and raster datasets,
for example processing marine geophysical acquisition data

*         Provide database (PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and maintenance support
to Senergy's client-facing web mapping application (iris) and work
closely with in-house geospatial developers. There will be a number of
opportunities to learn and develop skills using Open Source
technologies.

*         Undertaken geospatial QC tasks against established marine data
standards such as MEDIN and Seabed Survey Data Model (SSDM) 

*         Provide support in generating 3D geospatial visualisations.

Essential Technical Skills/Experience

*         Solid knowledge and proficiency using desktop GIS applications
such as ArcGIS and/or QGIS for data loading, manipulation and map
production

*         Comfortable with geodesy concepts and their application to
geospatial data and mapping

*         Basic knowledge of image and vector graphics packages,
examples could include GIMP, Inkscape or Adobe Creative Suite
applications.

*         Basic knowledge of use and completion of metadata

*         Comfortable working with structured data and have knowledge of
spreadsheets and/or databases

*         Have first class spoken and written English

Beneficial Technical Skills/Experience

*         Any knowledge or experience (even limited) of using Structured
Query Language (SQL) with spatially-enabled SQL database applications.
Note, a 2-day offsite PostGIS training course will be provided within 6
months of recruitment, if not before.

*         Any knowledge of CAD platforms and CAD data

*         Any knowledge or experience of scripting languages or command
line tools, particularly within geospatial, e.g. python scripting or
using GDAL/OGR.  Direct hands-on python mentoring will be provided and
resources/materials made available.

*         Any knowledge or experience of using Open Source tools,
applications or libraries, linux, particularly components that support
web mapping applications.

Qualifications

The candidate must have: 

*         BSc qualification or higher in a GIS or related technical
discipline  

Or

*         Would consider a computer science, science or engineering
degree with proven geospatial experience.
