Position title:
Spatial data analyst and programmer

Position description:
We are looking for creative, adaptable and self-motivated individual with specialization on spatial data analysis and management, image processing, and programming. Independent of specific and technical skills, successful candidates will be those that best demonstrate their qualities of teamwork, creative problem solving and communication. The successful candidate will join an academic research team and contribute to research projects funded by H2020 and national sources related to geoinformatics and Earth observation for agriculture and land management.
We offer integration within a challenging interdisciplinary team, a pleasant working environment at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Farm (Thermi Thessalonikis), organized technical infrastructure (equipment and software) and full-time funding for 30 months, extendable.

Job Description:
•       Develop tools for spatio-temporal analysis of Earth observation data using coding and automated routines
•       Develop and test novel methodologies for crop, soil and land Earth observation services
•       Map soil and crop biophysical parameters
•       Write reports and scientific publications
•       Collaborate with the team and project partners, and contribute to group activities

Required experience and skills:
•       Experience with EO programming languages and tools (Python, GDAL, Orfeo, R, or Matlab)
•       Experience with EO data analysis software (QGIS, SNAP, SAGA)
•       Good knowledge of spatial databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL)
•       Advanced proficient user of Greek and advanced user of English languages in a professional context (productive and comprehension skills)
•       At least 2 years postgraduate professional experience in similar roles

Desired skills:
•       Experience in Earth Observation and spatial data analysis for land applications (e.g. land suitability analysis, land degradation, etc.)
•       Good knowledge of geostatistical techniques, advanced digital image processing algorithms, and object-based image analysis
•       Good knowledge about the use of dockers, webGIS, geo-servers
•       An MSc in geoinformatics, engineering, earth sciences, or related field
