I think the time is ripe to revitalise the UbuntuGIS project, and I want
to find a suitable email list to work from.
Debian team, I suspect that the packaging work done in Ubuntu GIS is
going to be much the same as for Debian and we would benefit by having
the same list for both.
Is this ok? Or would you prefer we found another email list?
*Some background*
The UbuntuGIS project https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGIS was quite active
a year or two ago, and has done a good job packaging a number of the GIS
packages into Ubuntu. However, the key developers left and I was handed
the administrator token.
Recently, I've been getting a more and more emails (as administrator)
asking about the state of Ubuntu GIS and offers to help out.
In parallel, there has been a lot of work happening on:
a live DVD: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Disc
GIS Virtual Machine: http://www.gisvm.com/
Portable GIS: http://www.archaeogeek.com/blog/portable-gis/
All these projects will benefit greatly by having the gis packages
bundled into .deb files in Ubuntu, using UbuntuGIS as a Meta-package for
all the other projects.
