[Live-demo] Dropbox on GISVM for script sharing

Hi,

This is the GISVM guy with one more brilliant suggestion...I think! ;-)

I really think that we should implement a synchronized folder inside GISVM so that we could easily share and update the install scripts we are making.

The idea is to use the multi-platform engine: Dropbox.
http://www.getdropbox.com/

What I propose is:
1. Install dropbox inside GISVM.
2. Connect it to a common account.
3. And create a special script folder inside it.

We could also associate this account with other computers to manage the account.(outside GISVM)
And allow others to create shared folders into that dropbox-gisvm account.
We could use it to share other files: data, doc, etc
(almost unlimited possibilities)

What are the benefits of this to the project?
1. Easy access, use, add and modify scripts to all software developers (just enter GISVM and put the scripts there)
2. Immediately update of script versions!
3. Dropbox a Multi-platform access (Mac, Windows, Linux...)
4. We could gain much time on schedule. Because you could make changes until the last minute before the event (and even during the event)

The problems:
1. Dropbox doesn't have a read-only option! So anyone can change the files (just like wiki!!!)
2. Don't really know if this will work on a large scale computers simultaneous accessing the same Dropbox account (just like clone children entering the same school!!! ;-) )

Please, I really would like to know others opinion...

Cheers,
Ricardo Pinho

Thanks Hamish for sending this email to a number of lists, (including
the osgeo discuss list),

It is great to see so many people getting involved.

I encourage others who have stepped up to write a script for your
application to also send an email to the discuss list saying something
like "Yes, we/I'm working on adding a script for the LiveDVD too. ...
<some details about what you are doing, or why you think it is a good
idea or ...>"

The success of this LiveDVD project is based upon lots of people all
contributing a little bit, and hearing about others involvement will
encourage individuals to get involved.
