 The current way the R script was written pulls source packages from cran
 and compiles them.
 deb packages are available now for most packages,and this could
 potentially save a lot of time in the build. But we need to go through the
 list and figure out the ubuntu package names, and which ones don't have
 packages.

 Note debs are available by adding a repo like
 deb http://<my.favorite.cran.mirror>/bin/linux/ubuntu jaunty/

 In the case of our project we've been using
 http://cran.ms.unimelb.edu.au/
 Or for use Californian builders
 http://cran.cnr.berkeley.edu/
