*.desktop files need to be in the user's Desktop dir,
and icons need to be in /usr/share/pixmaps/ or somewhere.
see the packaging conventions section of the wiki.
by desktop dir I mean /home/user/Desktop/, and no further.

you have 6 hours from the time of this email to take care
of this. If it isn't there by then, please wait until
monday before making any edits to desktop and menu things.
