 I don't mind prominently mentioning them on the end of the lead on-disc
 HTML about/help page, but IMO the desktop background should be reserved
 for sponsors directly contributing to the creation effort or printing
 costs of the disc/usb. (as it encourages them to do so :)

 of those, for a generic osgeo-branded version of the disc my 2c vote would
 be to use this one:
   http://wiki.osgeo.org/images/5/5b/Osgeo_ppt_cover.png

 but we would need the raw gimp.xcf (or inkscape, or whatever) image source
 from Tyler so we could edit the text and resize to 1024x768 cleanly.
