Note that the test that disabled the GTiff driver when both internal and
external libtiff are detected has been relaxed in GDAL 1.8.1 by commit
http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/changeset/22461/branches/1.8/gdal/frmts/gtiff since
it seemed to be an annoyance for quite a number of people where the mix of
libtiff versions happened to work before. So the driver is no longer disabled,
but a warning is still emitted since depending on the linking order between
GDAL and external libtiff, you could observe crashes.
A better solution has been found and will be available in GDAL 1.9.0. See
http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/4144
