Rik,
I think Alex was the last person who tried (unsuccessfully) to work out 
how to automate including of bookmarks into Firefox. This was a few 
releases back and there is a good chance that you will have more success 
now by googling email lists.

If you can work out how to automate the inserting of bookmarks into 
Firefox, this would be very valuable for all of OSGeoLive.
