Hamish,

Yes, it looks possible to make a usb stick direct from the DVD with the
DVD being the source (I recall now my issue was making a usb stick while
running from a usb stick, which is different). I'll give that try when I
get a chance, on the road and don't have my hoard of test sticks handy.

As for the Symlinks, they do indeed make it in /etc/skel on the Full iso
but must be happening after the user is made and they do not show up in
the /home/user/
