 I am digging around in build 9647
 I see gvSIG using a JDBC driver called

 com.iver.cit.gvsig.jdbc_spatial.ExtJDBC_Spatial
 }}}

 while uDig and openJUMP use a refractions PostGIS driver..

 an error is generated by {{{SELECT asEWKB("the_geom",'XDR') ... }}}

 looking in PostGIS 2.0 legacy.sql, I see that call

 was ''deprecated in '''PostGIS 1.2.3'''''  that is 2007.

 That means that after PostGIS 1.3 in 2007 people

 were '''strongly encouraged'''
 to no longer use that form of the call.
