Comment:

  $ apt-cache rdepends libboost-regex1.49.0

 shows that it is tilemill's aftermarket libmapnik which is using it.
 everything else uses 1.46. boost tends to put out a new one every couple
 of months.

 it's only 1.3mb for the three 1.49.0 packages combined. not worth the fuss
 IMO. The killer is libboost-dev, that brings in hundreds of mb of stuff.

 Upgrading to a newer ubuntu would solve the problem, but only if the
 aftermarket packages people install (can) stick to the mainline.
