[Live-demo] Fonts in OpenJDK7

I haven't tried out a recent version of the live image, so please 
forgive my basic question.
When the transition was made from a Sun JDK to an OpenJDK, were there 
any problems (or complaints) about the appearance of fonts within the 
java desktop OSGeo applications?  Fonts being unattractive, menus being 
too wide, that kind of thing?

And if so, was any solution found to this?  I'm hoping that if someone 
found a solution for OSGeo Live (or Xubuntu) then maybe it will also be 
a valid solution for Ubuntu and Debian.

To be honest I was hoping it was just a temporary OpenJDK6 problem or 
only an Ubuntu problem but I'm now faced with the issue directly myself 
with OpenJDK7  :(
