I don't think we have discussed it. I think the last time we dealt with
Tomcat specifically was the move from 5.5 to 6.

You can put in a ticket for the move to Tomcat 7. It would be attempted
in the next release cycle OSGeo-Live 8.5 which will start work on in
October for release in early 2015.
