[Live-demo] Non-7.9 question: ownership of /cdrom

I have a question relating to Live 7.0 (and probably other versions). In the USB live system, the native file system is mounted automatically on boot at /cdrom with rw perms and root ownership. Where is this defined (it's not /etc/fstab & I can't find an init script in the machine itself). More to the point, how easy is it to change to mount this with "user" as owner?

Alternatively, could I bind a sub-dir from the native fs on the USB into a subdir of /home/user/data with rw access perms for "user"?

Thanks,
Jeremy
