I have the same issue: after installing OSGEO Live on a machine, 
Geoserver doesn't work at all, even after starting it manually.

Looking at it, at http://localhost:8082/geoserver/web this is what is 
issued:

HTTP ERROR: 404
NOT_FOUND
RequestURI=/geoserver/web/
Powered by jetty://

I've searched around the web for some hint, other users are experiencing 
the same, but didn't find any solution.

The weird thing is that starting OSGEO Live DVD, Geoserver works 
smoothly. The problem arise after local installation of the entire 
suite.

Is there any solution possible?
