Folks,
I'm thrilled to announce that OSGeo has succeeded in hiring Tyler Mitchell
as a full time executive director. The full press release is at:
http://www.osgeo.org/content/news/news_archive/tyler_ed.html
Tyler has been "beating the drum" for organizational support for our
community - originally the mapserver community and then more widely for
several years. So I am very pleased that he has agreed to take on this
role full time. He should be starting full time in the position on the
6th of November.
Tyler will be primarily acting in a support and facilitation role, rather
than "commanding", but by being able to concentrate on the task full time
I hope he will be able to help move key initiatives forward - and by
keeping a toe in all OSGeo activities he can provide some degree of
coordinatation to all our activities.
The board prepared a job description for the executive directory role at:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Executive_Director_Job_Description
Some earlier, less authoritative thinking on the matter can also be found
at:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Executive_Director
I hope everyone will welcome Tyler.
I would add that in the memaining 2-3 weeks before he starts he has a lot
of work to finish with his current employer, so I hope people will appreciate
he has limited time available for OSGeo before starting full time.
Best regards,
--
