" + "Currently supported renderers are:\n"; message += this.renderers.join("\n"); Layer/WFS.js:376: this.commitReport('WFS Transaction: SUCCESS', response); this.commitReport('WFS Transaction: FAILED', response); * How much support do we need for interpolation in text? I think that the answer for this at the moment is "none" -- that is, all translated text will be literal, exact matches for the time being, with no interpolation of variables into the middle of strings. This may change in the future. Depending on how it changes, more complex support for pluralization may also be needed. For the time being, I'd like to ignore all of this and just pretend that we want simple string translations unless someone tells me otherwise. * In general, translation libraries use a short function name to indicate "translate this string." (I think a common use in C is the "_" function, via the gettext library or what have you.) In OpenLayers, we try not to squash other people's namespaces. I'd like to use OpenLayers._ for translation, as opposed to OpenLayers.Strings._ or something similar. * I think the simplest thing to do is to have a single Javascript file with the Strings in it (lib/OpenLayers/Strings.js), and a default language. Then, to change the language, all you need to do is something like: OpenLayers.Strings.language = "fr"; before you start working with the UI. Does this seem sane? the file might look something like this: OpenLayers.Strings = { 'en': { // Message reported via alert when WFS transaction succeeds 'olLayerWFSSuccessMessage': 'WFS Transaction: SUCCESS' }, 'es': { 'olLayerWFSSuccessMessage': 'WFS Transaction: e`xito!' }, '1337': { 'olLayerWFSSuccessMessage': '5|_|CC35' } OpenLayers.Strings.language = 'en'; Is there anything that anyone can think of that would make this totally infeasible? Ok, let's change this First: i think being active is an important point. No, i'm not active enough but willing to change. So i first propose to add Arnulfs comments to the procedures for Mapbender PSC. Second: i think testing of Mapbender needs some improvement. Trac is ok, but very technical, so i don't think many USERS will use this. Perhaps we should set up some procedures to follow with each RC and every Release: 1. Test database-dumps => mysql to new database => mysql upgrade from previous version => postgresql to new db => postgresql upgrade from new version of course with uft8 and iso... Are there any errors? Pitfalls? Is it possible to build an mapbender-Installation from scratch with this release? Is it necessary to test under linux and windows? I don't know After testing give an ok in the list or (better) mapbender Wiki for this release. [I'm willing to do this point on a regular basis.] 2. test (and document) new features i think new features are an important reason for new releases ;-) So they have to be tested thoroughly and they have to be documented. Both test and document from an enduser-point-of-view, the programmer has already tested this,i hope ;-). 3. test (and document) changed features i.e. WFS-Gazetteer Both test and document from an enduser..(see above) where to document? Perhaps wiki, at the changelog-pages? 4. document deprecated features Document which feature is deprecated, which is superceeded by which. (wfs_gazetteer=>wfs_gazetteer_client, mod_key.php...) btw. who decides which feature is deprecated? I don't think testing should be done by the main programmers, they program (which is time consuming enough), they know how to use the software, they know which adjustment is expected by which feature so many bugs will not become visible. Third: Remind PSC-Members, users, programmers of MB-IRC on a regular basis, perhaps a few hours before meeting starts. I must admit i just forget the meeting quite often... Comments and contradiction are welcome... What do you think? Bye Thomas -- Ist Ihr Browser Vista-kompatibel? Thomas, I believe that the system that used to be irc.telascience.org died a sudded and final death and John setup the html-irc stuff on a different system from memory. I don't think I have direct access to this new system, but if you can file a ticket for SAC at: http://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo then I'll talk to John about adding it. I think there are a few others missing as well. Sorry for the inconvenience.
