It is no problem to choose a different print layout.

The print templates are generated with Libre Office draw.

You could take one of the excisting Mapbender print templates from 
mapbender/app/Resources/MapbenderPrintBundle/templates/ and modify it to 
your needs.

1. Open 
mapbender/app/Resources/MapbenderPrintBundle/templates/a4_portrait_offical.odg

2. Click on the page to open the context menu and choose properties. The 
page setup will show up and you will be able to modify the page format.

3. After that you have to design the layout

4. You have to save the file as odg and create a pdf for the new format 
(Select all elements with Ctrl-A - Export to pdf - Selection.

5. In your Mapbender application you have to refer to your new print 
template in the element PrintClient
