[Mapbender-users] Mapbender Version 4.2.0-RC1 released 2025-08-20 - Call for testing

Hallo Mapbender-Community,

das Team bereitet mit Hochdruck die neue Version 4.2.0 vor, die 
voraussichtlich Ende August 2025 erscheinen wird.

Das Mapbender-Entwicklungsteam hat die Mapbender Version 4.2.0-RC1 heute 
am 20.8.2025 veröffentlicht.

Das gebaute Paket findet sich unter [1] und der Tag der Version 
4.2.0-RC1 unter [2].

Bis zum finalen Release arbeiten wir jeweils im Branch develop [3].

Wir möchten die Community aufrufen, diese Vorab-Version eine Woche lang 
zu testen und Feedback zu geben - entweder via Mailing-Liste [4] oder 
als Ticket [5].

Bei dieser Version 4.2.0 handelt es sich um einen Feature Release, d.h. 
es warten ein paar Neuerungen und zahlreiche Bugfixes auf Sie.

Folgendes möchten wir extra hervorheben:

- Der Bereich der Datenquellen wurde überarbeitet. Zukünftig können neue 
Datenquellen leichter hinzugefügt werden
- Vector Tiles wird als neue Datenquelle unterstützt
- Verbesserung der Barrierefreiheit
- Im Ebenenbaum kann nach Themen gesucht werden
- Routing bietet den Download der Route als GeoJSON/GPX/KML
- Ansichtsverwaltung wurde umfangreich überarbeitet
- Legendenausgabe kann via Instanz-Konfiguration deaktiviert werden

Umstieg auf die neue Version
----------------------------
PHP 8.1 ist nun die älteste unterstützte PHP-Version.

Ein Update von 3.3.x auf Version 4.2.0 ist möglich. Es gibt aber ein 
paar Schritte zu beachten. Lesen Sie daher unbedingt das Dokument 
UPGRADING.md [6].

Mapbender version 4.2.0-RC1 released 2025-08-20 - Call for testing

Hello Mapbender community,

The team is working flat out to prepare the new version 4.2.0, which is 
expected to be released in at the end of August 2025.

The Mapbender development team has released Mapbender version 4.2.0-RC1 
today 2025-01-31.

The built package can be found at [1] and the tag of version 4.2.0-RC1 
at [2].

Until the final release, we will work in branch develop [3].

We would like to call on the community to test this release candidate 
for a week and provide feedback - either via the mailing list [4] or as 
a ticket [5].

The upcoming major release with version 4.2.0 contains many new features 
as well as numerous bug fixes.

Version 4.2.0 is a feature release, i.e. there are a few new features as 
well as numerous bug fixes waiting for you.

We would like to highlight the following features:

- The data sources section has been revised. In future, new data sources 
can be added more easily
- Vector tiles are supported as a new data source
- Improved accessibility
- The layer tree can be searched by layers
- Routing offers the option to download the route as GeoJSON/GPX/KML
- ViewManager has been extensively revised
- Legend output can be deactivated via instance configuration

Switching to the new version
----------------------------
PHP 8.1 is the oldest supported PHP version.
An update from 3.3.x to version 4.x is possible. However, there are a 
few steps to follow. It is therefore essential that you read the 
document UPGRADING.md [6].

New features of version 4.2.0

Are you already curious? Then take a look at the CHANGELOG [7]. When the 
final release is published, we will go into the new features in detail.
