Yes.  That's right.  Using PNG8 for tiles would require more thought.

That's just for dynamic overlays though, right?  I think that supporting 8bit PNG in tiles would require a bit of effort (maybe specifying a fixed palette to map to?) to avoid a patchwork quilt effect.

Hi Maciej,

The FORMAT parameter currently accepts PNG (32bit), JPG, and GIF.  We are intending to add PNG8 support when we implement RFC38.

when MG will suport more outgoing formats like 8bit PNG to make it faster (know it is no posible to set default compresion lever in config.)
