Hello,
I was emailing with Wolf Bergenheim, the OSGeo administrator for GSoC 2010. As part of the GSoC process, each project should assign both a primary mentor (myself) and a backup mentor just in case something happens to the primary mentor. Typically, the backup mentor does not have to do anything. All mentors will receive a Google Summer of Code 2010 t-shirt.
Rohit's project has two parts:
1. Native GCC 4.4 compilation and RedHat RPMs
2. Enhancing the MapGuide security model so that layers (phase 1) and GUI elements (phase 2) can be controlled using user and group permissions.
Would anyone be interested in acting as a backup mentor? If so, there is some registration information posted on OSGeo
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code_2010_Administrative#How_to_register_as_a_mentor
I am not sure the public announcement on soc at lists.osgeo.org is really necessary at this point. Steps 3 to 5 of the registration process would still be required. Some of the other student proposals are quite interesting. As a mentor, you could check them all out.
If you are interested or have any questions, please let me know.
Regards,
Trevor Wekel
