Hi Trevor,
Since you did not get any (public) feedback from your mail of June 14th with the same question, I think that you should feel free to branch.
Typically, I think that if you don't supply a deadline for responses, 48 hrs is the default.

Since we are now approving RFC work for 2.3, should we branch 2.2? I have a couple of minor submissions to go in before we branch. I should be able to get these in by end of day today.
