Hey guys,

Should we pull MapGuide from the LiveDVD for FOSS4G 2011? The LiveDVD team has requested that we slim MapGuide down and I haven't had time to look at the required changes in detail. Jackie believes we can free up 100MB+ by dropping some of the coordinate system libraries. Building/configuring against the natively installed Apache and PHP libs would also save tens of megs. We may not have time to do it.

Since we are considering dropping the 2.3 release to move straight to 2.4, it might make more sense to concentrate our LiveDVD efforts on the next release. The feature freeze for the next LiveDVD release should be in January 2012. This is probably better from a scheduling perspective. The MapGuide and FDO "trunk" vaults should be in bug fix mode by then.

It will easier to do Ubuntu 10/11 build fixes on trunk and probably more acceptable from an "unreleased branch" perspective.

I simply did not have enough free time to move the native Ubuntu build forward. I got started with Fdo and found that cmake was the only viable build option for Ubuntu 10. It was less broken than the "build.sh" scripts. Having said that, the cmake build scripts are out of date and require some additional changes which I was starting to explore. As far as I can tell, the Fdo cmake scripts are not actively maintained.

In any case, native Ubuntu builds for MapGuide and Fdo will be a fair bit of (unpaid) work. Unfortunately, my spare time is in high demand these days so allocating days/weeks of it is tricky.

Regards,
Trevor
