 It would be nice if when installing the web server extensions on windows
 server 2003, the installer would create and configure the web extensions
 to reside in a separate application pool.

 We commonly have encountered mixed asp.net 1.1/2.0 IIS environments, and
 installing the web server extensions into the default application pool
 will usually cause breakage because 1.1 sites already exist in the same
 pool.
