 If you preview a freshly opened layer with composite styles, it will throw
 back a DbXmlException.

 Strangely though, if you then run "Edit as XML", dismiss it and re-run the
 preview it will proceed without issues. So something in the "Edit as XML"
 function is fixing up the XML (ie. stripping off the xmlns:xsi and version
 attributes from any inline SimpleSymbolDefinition elements)
