[mapguide-users] Windows Operating System

The only problem with this is if you want to use the .NET web extensions.
The available Apache .NET module does not fully support .NET 2.0 and the
MapGuide API. You can partially get around the IIS simultaneous connection
issue by editing the Windows metabase. I have done this and have not had
any issues developing MGOS applications on XP Pro (but our production server
is a server OS). Details on this are in a document I wrote for MapServer
Enterprise installs. Much of this document does not apply anymore with the
release of MGOS 1.0, but this particular section, the very last one in the
document, still does apply. It can be downloaded from

Also if you do use XP, then Apache is the preferred Web server. Apache
supports an unlimited number of simultaneous connections, while IIS on XP
only supports two. If you want to use IIS then you should install MapGuide
on a server OS.

Molly,

MapGuide is a server application and should be run on a “Server Class”
operating system, ie: Windows 2000 and Windows 2003.

However, it does work on Windows XP, but is not “Officially” supported. For
demo purposes in house we have setup MapGuide server and Studio on a Windows
XP machine, but again this is not officially supported. For any real
applications you should be using a “Server Class” operating system.

Hello All,

Does Mapguide Server work on windows XP Professional?

As mentioned in the requirements, it works only on Windows NT 2003 and
Windows 2000.

But it is not specified in the Installation guide
(https://mapguide.osgeo.org/docs/InstallConfigureMapGuideOnWindows.pdf) that
what operating system should be used?

Regards,

Molly Thompson
