Could you provide more details please?
 
For example:
 
- the type and number of processors
- the MGHz of the system
- the amount of RAM the system has
- are there any other applications or web applications on the server
- are you running Studio on the same machine or a separate client
 
If the dwf viewer is stopping it's possible the system is timing out which is a symptom of the performance issue.
 
One possibility is that if you don't have enough physical memory the system is swapping to virtual memory.

I installed mapguide server and and mapguide web server extensions on Win2000 SP4 (IIS 5.0).
 
When I tested the dotnetviewersample with Sheboygan.mgp the performance of the server is very slow.
The ajax viewer shows the map, the dwf viewer doesn't even load the map.
Still, the ajax viewer is very slow, it takes about 1 minute or more to load the map at http://localhost/mapguide/dotnetviewersample/ajaxviewersample.aspx
The dwf viewer stops at cca. 90% if you look at the progress bar at the top left corner.
 
I used the IIS Configuration type on install.
 
What's wrong?
