[mapguide-users] Multilingual support

Hi,

 

As Jason pointed out MapGuide has a built-in support for localization so
anyone can provide the localization for any language if MapGuide does
not. The initial request to a web application (ajaxviewer.php/jsp/aspx
or dwfviewer.xxx) accepts an optional LOCALE parameter which is expected
to be a 2 letters ISO code representing the language. If this parameter
is omitted, English is used. All the strings used in the viewer UI are
externalized in a file named after the ISO code, and located in the
folder named 'localized'. MapGuide OS comes with the file 'en' that
contains strings in English. When a LOCALE parameter is specified,
MapGuide looks up for the corresponding file in the localized folder and
extracts the strings from there. If there is no file found in the
localized folder for this ISO code, it defaults to English. 

 

The locale parameter is propagated to every page including pages
supplied by the user (requested by an Invoke URL command), so a user can
localize his own UI accordingly. 

 

I'm not sure what the current localization plans are. I know that a
Japanese localization is in the works. I think that MapGuide Enterprise
is planed to be localized in 7 languages. I don't have them all in mind
but German, Italian, Japanese and French are among them.

What do you mean by multilingual support?

 

MapGuide OS has localisation support built into its framework, and I

think that they're working on at least one other language for an

upcoming release.

 

I don't think that this allows user-side language selection though.
