[mapguide-users] Guestion about Spatial Data v SHP,SDF your opinion pleas.

Understood :)

I've been maintaining SDF copies with MG 6.5 for a long time, and I am
looking forward to managing the data in a DBMS instead.

I'm going to have to do some benchmarks and see whether the
convenience/security outweighs the performance...

Sure, everything is possible (as long as it doesn't violate a
conservation law I guess).

As far as filters go, you can always generate a filtered SDF and have
better perfromance. That's assuming the data is static, which I already
stated in my initial email.

Traian,

I understand that SHP/SDF are a lot quicker for raw feature access and
spatial operations, but is it possible that RDBMS data stores would work
faster with filtered data sets, or with attribute-based queries when
proper indices have been set up?

One considerations is that it's much faster to access SHP or SDF files.
So if you are serving static data via a Mapguide server to many users,
it's better to store it as SDF or SHP (at least for the purposes of
MapGuide).

However, there are many other factors that would affect the choice of
data store, depending on what you need to do with the data.

Hi all!

My guestion is what is a different between data stored in Spatial Data v
SHP or SDF file?

What abilities are beetwen this 2 data store option.
What is best for mapguide server?
What can you say about PostgresSql v Oracle (did you use PostgreSQL in
small project - it is cheaper for me :) What solution have more
opportunities? (or it is only way to store date and MG Server don't make
any different)

I wait for all opinion.

thx.
ps. wher can i read more about this topic?
