[mapguide-users] Petitions too slow?

Performance for PNG vs. GIF output should not be very different, especially on the local network, since map images are always generated in 32 bit color before being saved out to gif or png.
 
I tried your site and searching for CASTILLO did not take 12 seconds, it took about 2 not counting the time it takes to zoom the map to that feature. Selection in the AJAX viewer is done on the server side, so it is normal for it not to be instantaneous -- it has to redraw the map with the object you selected highlighted. 
 
So your speed problem is caused by slow map generation time on the server, for some reason. What is the data format for your layers -- are they SDF or SHP?

I'm developing a gis based in MapguideOS. Here you can find a temporary example of my work:

Server: Pentium Xeon Dual Core 2.8 Ghz, 2 Ghz RAM, Windows 2003 Server (Spanish Ed) w/ SP1.
Internet with 1 Mbits/sec.

Tasks and their times:

Note: A few layers, Tests under Internet Explorer 6, 1024x768 and another bandwidth with 1 Mbits/sec.

Output in PNG24 format:


*	Load the Web: 15 sec. 
*	Search 'CASTILLO, 4' (polygon-parcel): 8 sec. 
*	Search 'CASTILLO' (line-street): 12 sec. 
*	Search 'COSO' (line-street): 11 sec. 
*	Search 'COSO, 12' (polygon-parcel): 5 sec. 
*	Select a parcel: 5 sec. 
*	Toolbar: Initial View, zoom rectangle: 8-11 sec. 

Output in GIF format:


*	Load the Web: 15 sec. 
*	Search 'CASTILLO, 4' (polygon-parcel): 8 sec. 
*	Search 'CASTILLO' (line-street): 6 sec. 
*	Search 'COSO' (line-street): 7 sec. 
*	Search 'COSO, 12' (polygon-parcel): 4 sec. 
*	Select a parcel: 5 sec. 
*	Toolbar: Initial View, zoom rectangle: 6 sec. 

Conclusions: Very slow. Maybe tweaking some file or parameters can help. The image in the cache show me a filesize between 80Kb with gif and double with png. So what's the server does? I can't understand this hole of time.

I hope ideas, comments and conclusions.
