I made a submission today MG307 that changed the MapGuide server service name to "MapGuideServer" instead of "Server". Hopefully, this will help alleviate the name issue in the future.

That's its display name, but its service name is "Server".  You can see this by right-clicking on the service and going to Properties.
 
NET STOP/START gets confused and thinks you're referencing the lanman service, but the service manager and the SC command (XP/w2k3 only) do OK with it.

Not sure if this is relevant, but I am not sure if it was the best idea to
name the service "Server".  There is already a service called that and if
you try to start and stop at cmd prompt it thinks you are talking about the
lanman service.
Went back to a restore point and now the service starts but immediately
stops.   Also tried uninstalling and re-installing all components.
